Previously considered a significant investment, these panels are now available at a fraction of their former costs. Prices have plummeted from a staggering 15,000 Pakistani Rupees to a remarkably affordable 5,000 Rupees, making solar power a realistic option for countless households and businesses.
The Federal government played a pivotal role in orchestrating this transformation. In February of 2023, they took a decisive step by eliminating all taxes on solar imports. This strategic decision not only reduced the financial burden on consumers but also ignited a surge in the adoption of sustainable energy solutions.
While the overarching trend is a substantial price reduction, the impact varies across different regions. In the capital city of Islamabad, a 550-watt solar panel, previously valued at a hefty 75,000 rupees, can now be obtained for a mere 34,000 rupees.
Interestingly, some markets continue to offer solar panels at discounted rates, despite the dollar’s apparent decrease in value. This accessibility has opened up new avenues for a more cost-effective transition to green energy.
The solar panel industry is in a state of flux. Different stakeholders offer varying perspectives on this monumental shift. Malik Asif, representing the Solar Panels Association, attributes this change to the global decrease in the value of the US dollar. According to him, this decrease has allowed solar panel prices to plummet, thereby ushering in new opportunities for affordable and sustainable energy solutions.
However, not all traders share this perspective. Yahya Khan, a Solar Panel Dealer, expressed the need to align prices with market rates to ensure customers can take advantage of these reduced costs. With a substantial inventory, he’s well-positioned to offer attractive deals.

Faisalabad, too, saw a remarkable 20% reduction in solar panel prices. The 550-watt solar panel, originally priced at 40,000 Rupees, now stands at an inviting 32,000 Rupees after an 8,000 Rupee reduction. A similar story unfolds with the 150-watt solar panel, which now costs a mere 12,000 Rupees after a 2,000 Rupee reduction.
The tangible impact of the dollar’s depreciation is most palpable in Quetta. Solar panel prices in this region have experienced a significant decline. Dealers in the area reported substantial reductions, including the 150-watt solar panel, which dropped from 14,000 to a mere 10,000 Rupees.
The 300-watt solar panel also saw a substantial reduction, moving from 23,000 to 17,000 Rupees. Meanwhile, the 560-watt solar panel’s price dropped from 35,000 Rupees to a highly affordable 29,000 Rupees.
Muhammad Atif from Quetta expressed his enthusiasm, describing this price reduction as a game-changer for the region’s renewable energy sector. These cost-effective solar panels are poised to encourage individuals and businesses alike to embrace clean and sustainable energy solutions.
