Pakistan Railways Expands Cross-Border Network to Afghanistan, Attracts French Investment

Islamabad, October 23, 2023 (PAKONOMY):  In a strategic move to enhance regional connectivity and economic cooperation, Pakistan Railways is planning to extend its network to Afghanistan. The initiative, announced by Minister for Railways Shahid Ashraf Tarar, aims to develop a railway connection between Kohat and Kharlachi, fostering closer ties between Pakistan and its neighboring country.

During a meeting with French Ambassador Nicolas Galey, Minister Tarar unveiled this ambitious plan and highlighted the investment potential of the Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway M-6. He emphasized the unique investment opportunities it offers to France, strengthening economic collaboration between the two nations.

Minister Tarar also shed light on the growing expansion of the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC), providing a wide array of investment avenues, including opportunities for French investors. This expansion is expected to contribute significantly to the country’s economic growth.

Ambassador Nicolas Galey reciprocated the enthusiasm for cooperation and investments. He underlined the longstanding history of diplomatic relations and collaboration between France and Pakistan, expressing the French business community’s keen interest in various projects and investments in Pakistan. The ambassador emphasized the diverse investment possibilities available for French investors in Pakistan.

Minister Tarar underscored Pakistan’s political stability and democratic government since 2008, highlighting the country’s promising future. Notably, Alstom, the renowned French transport company, is solidifying its long-term presence in Pakistan, indicating a substantial commitment to expanding investments in the region.

Ambassador Nicolas Gillie conveyed his intent to boost French investments in Pakistan, aiming to inject substantial capital into the country’s growing economy. This move not only strengthens economic ties between the two nations but also underlines the broader commitment to regional economic development and cooperation.

The expansion of Pakistan Railways into Afghanistan, combined with the increasing interest of French investors in Pakistani projects, sets the stage for significant developments in the region.
